Getting the runaround while looking for a new job

I have been searching high and low for a new position for the last 6 months or so. I am currently a television director at a local TV station in Pittsburgh which is owned by a major news network. My position will be switching to automation in the next few months and despite reassurance from managers that the switch will not result in layoffs, I have my doubts since I have not seen anything in writing. Among many others, I recently applied for a new position with the same company as a Commercial Videographer and was excited to receive an email back within days about scheduling a phone interview with the corporate talent scout. I responded with my availability and they responded with a scheduled time for the interview.

Moments after confirming the time of the interview they emailed me back saying that there was a scheduling conflict and that they would have to reschedule the interview. I wait for about a week with minimal communication, and a few moments ago they email me back saying they are interviewing different candidates. Never have I been given this kind of runaround in the hiring process and honestly it feels consistent with my professional experience at this company. It just seems like an absolute win/win for the company and myself if I was to get this new job because they wouldn't have to re-hire to fill my former position as we will need fewer directors after we make the switch to automation, meaning whatever they had budgeted for the new commercial videographer position salary, they could take from my current salary… I guess they didn't see it that way? Their loss. I can't wait to finally be free of this place.

When I moved to Pittsburgh I applied for 2 jobs and received 2 interviews, in my current job search after 8+ years of gained professional experience at my current job, I have applied for about 50+ positions and received one redacted interview request. WTF happened?
