I just took a role as a school aide. When interviews took place I was told the pay would be 16-18 based on experience with benefits and paid holidays. Successfully did the interviews and got hired. When signing on boarding documents I didn’t see the pay rate or anything so I asked the principal what did her and the admin team decide on. She responded by saying all school aides start at 15. I took it anyway considering it comes with benefits and paid holidays.
Fast forward to a week later, last night I was browsing through the payroll portal and realized that under my salary info it says 14 an hour because of no education. I graduated high school and am currently pursuing a bachelors (I have 79 credits). Where I live 14 is below the minimum wage which is 15. I feel really shocked and I’m not sure if I got swindled or what. I feel bad I took the role but this is unacceptable for me. Any advice?
