I work as a contractor for a large corporation. I knew that corporations were devoid of empathy towards workers. I didn’t know just how bad it is though.
Corporations have no idea what reasonable expectations are. They want the world and they want it now. They don’t understand what they are talking about or what the work involves. My company “cares” about work life balance but we are severely understaffed. The incompetency of the corporation leads to overwork for contractors as well. We can’t get employees because when people come they quit in the first week when they realize just how fucked the project is.
We overpromised beyond our own capabilities and we are cutting corners like crazy to meet unreasonable expectations. It is genuinely impressive that this corporation makes any money with how poorly organized they are. Nobody is happy. The project is falling apart because nobody understands the scope and difficulty of the project. I now understand that the reason why corporations are “more efficient.” It’s because they do everything as cheap as possible and cut corners whenever possible.
Sorry that this is a bit disjointed. Just venting.
