Today he took me aside to talk about being promoted to management. He starts by asking me if I think I'm ready and why. I reply with something along the lines of : I believe I am the most qualified because I can sell in every department in the store and help out others close sales. I'm a leader blah blah. He then tells me that I'm not ready for the job because I'm not already doing the work of a manager and for him to know I'm ready I need to already be doing the work (managing salesmen, dealing with customer issues…). I feel like that concept is completely stupid! Why would I do extra work for the same pay just for a chance at a promotion when I'm already doing the most work and have the best sales of all the salesmen there?! To me, it sounds like an excuse to get me to work more for less
