The Waste Makes My Eye Twitch

I work as an upper level manager at a hospitality company that’s grown revenues double-digits consecutively for the last three years. During that time profit has tripled but wages have failed to keep up with inflation. I would get it if the business owner was a money hungry SOB, but they’re detached from the business and its a hobby for them that throws off $$$ as a perk. They made ~1 million in profit last year spending about 200 hours total in meetings and vacationing the rest of the year. The stupidest shit happened today where our software provider we have a multi-year agreement with told us a huge portion of their software was shutting down. The stupidest shit happened today where our software provider we have a multi-year agreement with told us a huge portion of their software was shutting down. They would support us with new software, but charge us over double what we’re currently paying for the unwanted upgrade. They’re in breach of contract and we should be talking to lawyers or demanding lesser charges but instead we’ve agreed to pay it after ~2 hours of dialog. Two hours and our software costs have gone up enough to pay for someone’s annual salary. Meanwhile we say wages can’t keep up with inflation. Probably because we’re doing stupid shit like this all over the place.

Moral of the story is that the majority of owners do not care about their employees, and couldn’t pick most out of a line up. They are more willing to pay strangers more than the people who work for them day after day. My wages have more than kept up with inflation (partly because I’m OE’d and got a ~87% bump this year), but it sickens me most pay hasn’t kept pace. We should be efficient and consistantly adjust wages for inflation. What I’d give to work with the A team, mine is F at best.
