I recently went from part time to PRN at my hospital job. I started a new job and was originally going to quit my previous one, but decided to stay PRN as I still enjoy all my coworkers and don’t want to shut the door to that job yet.
I had put in a 2 week notice to originally leave my job permanently, following that 2 weeks notice is when I signed the paperwork to remain PRN. I was told the status was effective 3/26, but was still told to come in for my shift 3/27, which I did.
We schedule in 6 week blocks starting 45 days before the schedule begins, so when I transitioned from part time to PRN, there was still 4 weeks of part time days I was on schedule for. I was originally told that as long as I fulfilled 4 days in the rest of the schedule period that I could remove my previously scheduled shifts.
That being said, I was told to try and find coverage for my shifts, even though technically I shouldn’t be scheduled for them considering they were shifts I committed to under part time status, not PRN. All the days I have scheduled are days I now currently work at my other job.
I was scheduled to work today previously from my part time schedule, and they marked me as sick when I told them for the 3rd time I cannot fulfill the rest of my previous schedule, but am more than willing to pick up on other days.
My manager told me that she verbally said I would need to fulfill at least one previously scheduled shift per week, even thought she NEVER said that, only that I had to work 12 shifts per quarter. I was then told that my recent absences with be discussed with me and my “attendance performance” because they have marked me sick for the shifts that were scheduled before my position change.
Am I in the wrong? Can they mark my attendance for not coming in when my employment status has changed and the shifts were scheduled under my part time employment status? Isn’t it there job to cover the shifts I had considering I am no longer a part time employee? My 2 week notice should have equated to the remaining days to be removed. Idk whether to just quit or take this up with HR as I don’t want a bad track record and marked ineligible for rehire..
Any advice please let me know!
