I work for a small locally owned woman’s boutique. I never realized how much my boss watches and listens to me and my other coworkers until recently.
In the past employees have asked if the cameras record/record sound, and basically if they would be of any use in an emergency. Back then she flat out lied to us all saying they record but the footage is only saved for a short period of time.
Recently while at one of the two stores, she was texting the employees working at the other location. She sent them something she knew they would be upset about and immediately checked the cameras and started listening in to their conversation.
After some brief research, this seems to be illegal in the state of Washington.
She immediately called the other employees and “called them out” for talking bad about her. She then drove to their location and showed them that her cameras have recorded years of private conversations at work.
My boss has also mentioned to me recently how she watches the new employees and sees who is “working hard” and who isn’t. Along with other comments I know she wouldn’t know about unless checking the cameras.
I feel like I’m under a magnifying glass at work. I know for a fact that when she’s not with us, she’s watching and listening.
tldr/ my boss watches and listens to employees on security cameras and creates drama based on private conversations.
