The joke’s on him because I already booked my one-way ticket to Europe for January 3rd, 2024 so I won’t be in the States to show up for work, but this just rubbed me the wrong way because he didn’t ask or consult me on this, just assumed that I plan on spending the next two and a half years with the company when I hadn’t made any such promise during my hiring interviews with anyone and explicitly stated that I eventually plan on permanently relocating abroad.
Bottom line is, I disliked this guy even during my hiring process (I kid you not, he’s like Michael Scott — but so much cringier and without the funny charm), because he made fun of me for the jobs I’ve worked in the past even though I am an immigrant in America and when I first arrived in this country, no one would give me a break or even schedule an interview with me because of my name and last name. I know that for a fact, because as soon as I changed my name to a more “American sounding one” (whatever that means) I had no trouble getting jobs left and right.
I just wanted to vent because it’s shit like this I won’t have to put up anymore after the next seven months and to encourage everyone else that you don’t have to put with sociopaths like this if you don’t want to. Best luck to everyone!
