Antiwork

I’m now making more money to work at a fast food restaurant than I was making at a daycare.

I recently quit my daycare job because I was struggling to support myself on the pay and was expected to work 50 hour weeks to make up for the lack of staff. Now I have a job in fast food where I’m making a whole $1.50/hr more with no mandatory overtime. Why is it that we have decided that people who work with kids should be paid in the emotional fulfillment their job brings and not in actual money? I loved working with babies but why would I dedicate all my energy and 50 hours of my week for less than I can make selling fried chicken? I guess I’m just upset at how under-appreciated I felt as a daycare worker, and getting a job with more pay and more benefits in a “wage slave” position is just the nail in the coffin.
