Discussion for the Antiwork community from a Superintendent

I don’t mean for this to be an antagonistic discussion in any way; I would like to have you’re opinion actually. I will respect your opinion, and I hope you will respect mine. Without giving away too many details…. I work for a multimillion dollar company as a Superintendent. We do heavy industrial construction. Without getting into details of what I did prior to taking this job (Former Marine Corps Infantry which I am proud of by the way, but not relevant to the discussion.) I started with this company as a laborer. I worked my way up. I was encouraged to learn and was taught anything I wanted to know. I still am. Without getting into details of what I did prior to taking this job (Former Marine Corps Infantry which I am proud of by the way, but not relevant to the discussion.)

I started with this company as a laborer. I worked my way up. I was encouraged to learn and was taught anything I wanted to know. I still am.

I was promoted based on merit on multiple occasions, I consider the owners of this company my family.

The jobs that we do are hard, they are very technical. This isn’t residential construction construction by any means.

As a Superintendent, I consider everyone under me my family. One of my goals is to hire someone and find out that one day that person is my boss. The amount of joy that I would get from knowing that I made someone better than myself would be indescribably amazing!

I despise discrimination in every way. If I ever see that on my job, I’ll most likely make the news for murder. People are judged by their character, morals, ethics, and virtues.

Everyone has a chance. As a superintendent it’s my job to keep the project moving forward. It is also my job to give someone my job if you want it….

I give my people raises without them asking. I train them. I make sure they are paid for their knowledge and skills when they do learn them.

My lowest paid laborer makes over 74k year with full benefits on top. He has no experience.

That’s my background and this is the part that you probably don’t want to hear….

I think the majority of people on this sub have never applied themselves.

I don’t disagree with all of the complaints on this sub. I have experienced horrible management in the past. People are shitty, but it doesn’t mean companies are.
