im a support worker for adults with learning disabilities, in a supported living home, in the UK.
i was working a 48 hour week, shifts were 8am-8pm.
they asked me to go onto nights for minimum 2 weeks to help settle a new client in. two months ago.
this client is high needs, no way is a supported living the right kind of facility for him. he is 6'2, i am 5'2. i work alone with this man at night. he is violent. i have been punched in the face, kicked, shoved, screamed at, pinched, barged, elbowed, stuff thrown at me.
when day staff come in i quite literally burst into tears out of relief that i can go home. every time i message my directora about getting back on day shifts, he says they're doing all they can to find staff to replace me at night. ive been asking for weeks. last week they had me work 6 back to back 12 hour shifts with this one client.
i am exhausted and i am starting to hate this man and its not even his fault.
i dont get time to see family or friends because i am nocturnal. my contract is 48 but they've been putting me on overtime pushing it to 60hrs a week, putting me into the next tax bracket and ultimately screwing the amount i get taxed. i dont know what to do anymore and needed a rant
