Really wondering where we are headed. Even though I know so much more than years ago and have more skills it seems things just keep getting harder. I think the big reason is the gradual merger of all small and mid-size companies to a larger mega-corp. Due to economies of scale and monopolies less workers are needed increasing competition.
Every company and/or project I have worked on previously has either been end of lifed or bought out. Eg the 1st company I worked for was a small family owned private company. The owner sold to a much larger company leading to humongous layoffs and attrition. I left just as that larger company was getting bought out by a behemoth. They specialized in making companies very lean. That was 11 years ago. Now they are finally closing down the facility which is nearly empty now. The product manufacturing is being outsourced which due to the nature of the product I can't imagine how the result won't be terrible for customers. I think they know that and are actually spinning off the company with a few others in their portfolio into one company. Some of those companies logically have nothing to do with each other! So they took those companies and sucked all value out of it and are now just crapping them out in one pile. This provides no value to regular people and just makes shareholders richer! Similar thing happened with the last company I worked for that was bought out by a private equity firm. And many companies I interviewed with and turned down the same thing happened to them.
I don't know where I'm going with this. I just wonder how much longer things can go on like this and how long people are going to keep taking it. It just seems like mostly we're completely distracted by things like who uses which bathroom. Meanwhile monopolies are growing, they are raising prices, and what we get for our money keeps getting crappier. Even the health insurance people get is so much crappier than what is used to be.
