Hi all, long time lurker first time poster on antiwork. This is mostly just a vent. It's kind of funny, kind of not.
I work for an insurance company call center, and I'm fully remote (thank goodness). The job is fine and it pays well enough for now. My manager and I meet once a month to discuss performance which includes things like after call surveys and call length etc etc. We get paid bonuses based on our stats as well, which is great.
Well, my manager has talked to me every month about my time away that I use each day. Time away is just away from desk instead of being available to take calls. She says that if I had less time away from desk, then I could get a extra $100 bonus every quarter (very small amount I know). She also includes this in my review. One day she asked me why I'm using so much time, and I told her honestly “because I have to use the bathroom.” And that's not a lie I take a shit in the morning and my manager doesn't like it LOL. It's funny now but I was extremely embarrassed when I said something. I still get a bonus because all my other numbers are good but I lose the $100 because of my shit breaks.
My manager is encouraging me to use intermittent leave FMLA or get a doctor's note and submit it to HR to work later to recover my lost time, basically asking me to stay late each day I shit on the clock. Just for the record, my shit break is once a day for 10-15 mins, which is think is reasonable for a 30 year old man with a disability. I haven't done that yet but I'm maybe considering it.
She said to me today “think about it this way, the company is paying you 4 hours a month to basically not work. That might help put it into perspective.” I immediately thought how bullshit stupid that is. So 3% of my work month is shitting and what, is the company losing money because of that? Are we going to close the business because I have to wipe extra hard some days???
I honestly thought Amazon workers were the only ones who got talked to about using the bathroom.
Anyway, maybe someone will find this funny. I have no intention to stop shitting. It's not something that can get me into trouble (as far as I know) and I'll keep on doing what I was born to do.
Tldr: I am losing a $100 quarterly bonus because I use the bathroom while on the clock
