Work trying to leverage more hours out of me in exchange for ‘maybe’ giving me time off to visit my family.

Context – I'm British immigrant living in the US. I finally got my first job last year after going through the long immigration process. During my phone interview for the job I made it clear that my only two requests before I accept the job are that I cannot work Wednesdays and that I will be taking time off to fly home and visit my family for the first time since 2021 (immigration means that you can't leave the country while you wait for your green card, which can take years. Mine took 378 days) and that my mother would be traveling to the US to visit so I would need time off then. They agreed to my terms and I stupidly didn't get it in writing. I finally got my green card and I'm now allowed to travel. So I put in my request months in advance for me…

I finally got my green card and I'm now allowed to travel. So I put in my request months in advance for me to travel to the UK in August for three weeks so we can have the wedding reception that we never got to have.

My boss pulls me into his office and tells me that 'HR aren't happy with the time I'm trying to take off and they're having to think about it.' he then goes on to say that maybe if I started working Wednesdays it would look good to them and they'd be more likely to grant my time off. He's been trying to get me to work Wednesdays since I started but I constantly tell him that I can't and don't want to.

Extra context: I was hired as a groundskeeper/maintenance assistant but then the actual maintenance guy got a DUI and they 'promoted' me to Maintenance Tech instead of hiring a replacement. (which I don't mind but surely that's me doing them a favor not the other way around. I get paid 6 dollars less an hour than the other guy did.)

Advice welcome. I liked this job because I like what I do and it was supposed to be flexible. My wife and I have been trying to start our own business. Maybe I quit and go all in on that?
