It’s that time of the year again where high school/university students like myself flock to snag a decent summer job. I worked at a local grocery store last summer so I figured that I’d apply to the same place this and that having work experience at the same location would give me an extra foot in the door, but I guess not.
My application just got rejected.
I always thought that jobs didn’t want to train their employees if they didn’t have to, and were more likely to hire returning employee applications but I guess not?
I have also been under the impression that it’s always better to have your University/degree(s) listed on your resume, and that those with it stood better chances then those without. But apparently my store is now prioritising hiring high schoolers without a full degree. So Again, I guess I was wrong.
And it’s not like I’m looking for any big paying job either. Just your average starter minimum wage in retail that’s close enough to help cover the cost of my student loans, and cover a replacement laptop I need for university (Digital Arts Major)
I’ve only been working summer jobs for 2 years, and I already hate this system. You’re either not qualified enough for your basic starter jobs, or you’re overqualified.
I hate this. Especially as a disabled individual without benefits. I’m not looking forward to another 40+ years of this, but worse… (when I have to search for full time jobs) after I graduate next year. Any advice would be appreciated.
