Taking a second job and trying to change health insurance. Why does it have to be a pain in the ass to drop when I am literally paying for it out of my own paycheck?

Hustle culture and working two jobs to break even and pay debt. yippee/s So I've been doing the multiple hourly job thing for a few years now but this time I'm attempting to temporarily balance a salaried wfh nonprofit job with an hourly state job. It's pathetic that neither pay enough to really live but working both at the same time for a couple months, I can catch up on some things. So the nonprofit job had a 60 day wait period to recieve health benefits which caused hardship on a couple doctors visits a month ago and already had me bitching to their HR. It costs approximately $220 per month for their high deductible health plan which blows. I recently accepted a state job (thats even union yay!) that I can hopefully move upward pretty fast in that has WAY cheaper health coverage. It is lower pay right now…

I recently accepted a state job (thats even union yay!) that I can hopefully move upward pretty fast in that has WAY cheaper health coverage. It is lower pay right now but the benefits long term outweighs the cons especially with the possibility of having to apply to PSLF next month.

I am currently fighting the nonprofit HR on dropping my coverage outside the enrollment period. I am telling them it is too expensive and since I am 25, it's cheaper to get on my moms health plan (trying to lay low and keep my state job quiet as long as possible).

They told me I need a qualifying life event which included every other bullshit reason besides financial hardship which is even funnier since the literal mission of the nonprofit is financial advocacy and rural poverty.

I am currently just going to be extra bitchy and ignore their qualifying life event list until they let me out of it but this is just another fucking reason it is horse shit that employers have SO much power over my health care.

This on top of having to work two jobs lowkey like this when BOTH should offer adequate enough pay for me to live and not even fret over $220 per month.

Rant over ugh.

Also I'd like to add I realize I am privileged to even have these opportunities for stability but it sucks all the same that they have this much control.
