Hi. I’m a high school student, working part time as a cashier at the supermarket. I quit my job about two months ago, and now have 3 weeks left, because the insisted I’d stay for longer than the legally required time. I’m going to tell you a bit about how borderline exploitive these multinational corporations are towards minors.
HOURS
When I started my job in February, the contracted stated that I would be working for 8 hours per week. This is what we agreed on. My hours now vary between 17 and 12 hours!!!! I’ve stated many times before that this is not what we agreed on, but when I tell that to my manager she says they’re short staffed. This is true, but this shouldn’t be an excuse to not listen to my contract.
VACATION DAYS
Since I’m a minor, and still in school, they are required by law to approve of my vacation day requests. Recently, on Easter weekend, I stated that I couldn’t work. I told them this 3 weeks in advance. They scheduled me for 20 hours!!!!! I refused and they gave me a warning. Not only that, but on days when I can’t work in general because of school, practice, or something else, I get texts from my manager and some other people there asking if I can come in that day.
SICK
I have chronic migraines and some other health stuff. It runs in my family and is very unpredictable, so I stated this at the interview. In the last 4 months, I have been sick for 2 days. On the first occasion, I got told off for calling the wrong number. On the second occasion, they told me to find a replacement myself or just go myself.
I am so sick and tired of this job holy shit. 3 weeks left.
Peace and love
