I can think of only one instance where a type of Communism has produced wealth and prosperity: The Hutterites. This small and enigmatic denomination of Anabaptists doesn't believe in private property and doesn't pay taxes either. Apart from agriculture, they also produce everything else within their colonies, including clothing and soap. If they fall short of anything, they'll trade with other Hutterite colonies.
Unlike the Amish, they do not spurn technology. They frown upon addiction and only use technology to improve their competitive advantage. They sell produce mainly and make a lot of coin, which goes directly to their community fund. Every hutterite gets a house, clothing, food, and other necessities for free. Everybody works to produce something and nobody gets paid. This is as close to proper communism as you can get (minus the atheism).
The Hutterites build wealth by selling to the outside world but seldom buy. Since the Hutterites don't pay wages, they are able to undercut farmers and agri-businesses that sell for profit. This has occasionally made them a target for hate crimes. It is immeasurably ironic that a bunch of religious communists are able to outcompete capitalists and also provide their communities with free housing, food, and other necessities.
I honestly think that capitalism and urbanization go hand in hand. Modern cities were designed from the ground up to serve the interests of capital. Freedom from capitalism necessitates freedom from the modern city.
As cities begin to empty out so too will the coffers of corporations.
Take a page out of the Hutterite book – abandon the urban hellscape, gain control of your own food supply (extremely crucial), gain economic self sufficiency, and amass a lot of wealth so that the community is well taken care of. I don't think it's feasible to expect any hope for reform via politics and government policies. It's time to consider an exit strategy.
