i work at a local coffee shop owned by the sweetest couple, and i enjoy working there. however, im constantly being asked to stay 30mins-1hour after my shift is scheduled. i do because i dont want to leave my coworkers in a bad position and usually spend that time cleaning up for them or helping prep for the rest of the day-really whatever i can to take some of the burden of their workload.
the other day i came in to open at 5:30 and was scheduled to get off at 12:30. a simple 6 hour shift. i didnt leave until 3:30, and usually we have a second person come in at 9:00 because it starts to get busy then. that person didnt show up and so i was alone in the store during peak hours from open until 11:00 and my other coworker who wasnt scheduled to come in until 3:00 came in at 11:00. we were both tired AND we both had to work the next day (me opening AGAIN and them coming in at 11:00). ive opened every weekend (really sunday-monday) for the past three weeks and my only off days are on days when i also have classes.
im so tired i just want one day where i have no obligations. should i tell the owners that if something like this happens again im going to hand in my two weeks? i really enjoy this job (when im not working extra hours) and i love my coworkers. i dont want to say something that could get me fired as my bosses have fired people in the past for personality type reasons? im not sure if it would apply in the same sense to me saying that i would hand in a two weeks. im just. tired.
edit: i forgot to mention. we are never offered or given any breaks regardless of how many hours we worked. that day that i worked an extra three hours, i ended up working a total of nine hours and was never even offered a break.
