Boss set me up for failure, so I took the day off

I work in a fintech role—decent job with good benefits, but my department can be especially messy. I decided to login yesterday for a little overtime, just to notice that my assigned work not only seemed to have doubled, but was now urgent (I.e they technically needed to be done before Sunday, and would expire Monday morning, which isn’t good). I checked to see when these were all assigned to me, because it’s not like me to leave urgent work (especially when I’m entering a three day weekend) My boss took them from other workers and assigned them to me on Thursday evening (the day before our 3 day weekend) nearly TWO HOURS after I’d clocked out for the weekend.

I checked to see when these were all assigned to me, because it’s not like me to leave urgent work (especially when I’m entering a three day weekend)

My boss took them from other workers and assigned them to me on Thursday evening (the day before our 3 day weekend) nearly TWO HOURS after I’d clocked out for the weekend. I never got any kind of heads up about this work at all, nor did I even commit to working the weekend (I’m allowed unlimited OT if I want it, sometimes I take it, sometimes I don’t). Plus, why would I work Saturday when it’s technically not time and half because of our holiday time???

Instead of stressing out to save a ship they decided to sink (bc it’s truly hours worth of other people’s urgent work, putting me very behind on my own), I’m taking a sick day ️

Their lack of planning and communication does not constitute an emergency on my part.
