a discussion about striking

@ my workplace it is often a topic that comes up every now and again, however it is almost always dismissed by the fact that this reality has many people shackled to their rents and payments and needing to put food on the table, which i obviously understand. i guess what i am trying to ask is what would be the most comparable duration of a strike to gain the participation of people in these circumstances? or is it even possible to have a short term strike and have it be affective? strength in numbers is what i believe in but everyone has mouths to feed.
