I'm in a project based role at the moment, but the company has me listed at non exempt. That being said, no OT is allowed – yet I am still pressured to complete deliverables by the specified deadlines as we will be at risk of regulatory agency fines.
I admit, I did what everyone says not to: I worked unpaid OT to get things done so I don't feel stressed out or harassed. I've been manually filling out my electronic timecard to make my timesheet show 8 hours a day instead of 8.5-9 hours a day. Yes, I know, it was stupid. But my own director had told me that if I worked over one day, I could come in late the following day if I wanted to. Didn't really do that more than once or twice over the past three years, but it was nice to know I had the option. Also, my director is very happy with the level of care I show in my work, because I take the time to make sure the deliverables are immaculate.
Just got a violation notice from payroll/HR today, saying that I must use the timecard punch system and that manually entering my hours is “subject to disciplinary measures.”
Guess we're gonna lower the quality. Might even miss some deadlines. Oh well.
