The ole bait and switch

TLDR: was asked for SSN and DL prior to job offer. Interviewer said job listing was incorrect, it was less pay. Couldn't tell me why it was “such a great company”. TLSR: (too long still read) Last week I had a job interview at an apartment community for a leasing agent position. I have a little over 2 and a half years of experience in the industry as well as the software they utilize. The Indeed listing said from $15-$18 an hour. I figured 18 an hour would be for an experianced candidate like myself. When I arrived I was immediately handed a TAA (Texas apartment association) job application by the assistant property manager. Last week I had a job interview at an apartment community for a leasing agent position. I had already applied on their website prior to the interview, so this was kind of annoying having to redo essentially everything I had provided online. It asked me for my SSN and DL #'s a couple of times, which I did not provide since no offer had been made. When I went into the interview with the property manager I explained that I didn't put the numbers on the application, and that I would do so once I received an offer. She looked baffled, She said they were required since they run a BGC and credit check on all applicants, before they send a job offer. She then explains how great the company is. When asked “what makes this company great to work for?” she said that I get matched 401k after 1 year but was unable to tell me the percentage that the company matches, because she had “been there 13 years but never looked”. But could get back with me on that. I haven't heard of a company that makes you wait one year to start depositing money into a 401k. She went on to ask me the hourly/salary rates of my previous jobs. I felt uncomfortable telling her, so I inflated them quite a bit. At this point I know I did not want the position, but I carried on out of respect (not sure what for). Then she goes on to tell me that their budgeted for $15 an hour for the position. I told her that it said 15 to 18 an hour on the job listing when I applied (3 days prior). She shook her head and said “no, I don't think so. They would have told me”. I pulled up the indeed application and showed her that it did say 15 to 18. She said that was wrong and she would have to get that fixed. I was pretty upset after that, I felt like it was bait and switch and they had wasted my time. I reported the job listing to indeed as misleading or something along those lines. I can only imagine what it would be like to work there under this property manager, who didn't seem to know anything.
