Had an incident happen at work yesterday involving my trainer that has me looking at him differently

So he’s a technician/trainer who has been there 6 years. He comes across as a nice guy but sometimes he reacts to things that are jokes a little too seriously and it definitely feels like he has a mask. Anyways, one of my coworkers has been here 3 years and been working with him the entire time. She’s usually pretty happy and outgoing. She’s also about to head out for Florida for a 4th of July vacation. She gets up and leaves and I’m thinking this isn’t good. At some point she comes back (I only about this next part because she told me after she came back to our area) and she’s still crying and apparently he threatened to report her to our supervisor and to determine if she needed to be fired.

The reason for all this? She was told she wouldn’t be getting a raise this year and if she didn’t like it she could quit. It really opened my eyes to the type of person my trainer is and where I work at so I’m trying to find something new now.
