This will be a lengthy post so bear with me. I started at a collision center 11 months ago. Upon being hired I was promised all sorts of things.. as usual. None of them came to fruition. 3 months ago I was finally promoted to the position I had been promised yet there were negotiations regarding the pay. Instead of getting the normal bonuses, I'd only get one of the two and it is the smaller bonus. Considering I was still learning, I was willing to accept this to be given the opportunity to advance my career. I never received any type of a bonus as promised, I was told it would be 1k if I ended the month a certain way, I did and no bonus. They claimed it was because of this or that for both months.
This past month, after being humiliated in front of several other employees and being told I am taking advantage of being on salary for planned missed days given months in advance, my pay would be back to hourly with no bonuses.. so essentially I'd never get the bonus for the job as promised even though other employees doing the same job have been receiving them this entire time. Myself and another employee who have both been in the same situation with this company put in our resignation letters to our GM. The Regional came down, said he didn't want to lose us and he'd look into us transferring. We both got offered other positions with different RMs and GMs. We accepted. (No paperwork was signed or filled out) I was to start today. We were never told we had to continue working at this location until a specific date.
I drove 45 minutes to be told I was pushed through as terminated by my old GM. The documents I signed upon starting state that I am an at will employee and as such I can quit at any time with or without notice and with or without reason and they can fire me the same. Now this past week at work, we both were treated like shit. It's a male dominated industry, we're women. I'm only saying this because it's relevant to the comments and such made. We were told by a fellow employee that our GM and other technicians were saying that his bad attitude lately at work is because he was hanging out with the women.. I never come in to work in a bad mood, even when I started hating it so how im responsible for someone else is beyond me…
My manager said in the manager meeting to the other GMs that he was put in a bad spot because we were leaving.. (we are in no way at fault for him not hitting his numbers) the main tech made a comment to the GM that he was glad we were leaving maybe now some work will finally get done.. etc. I could keep going but its not worth it. So close to a week after the notice, Wednesday morning, we come in and our job is being taken away from us and is now being done by the office administrator and the GM.. nobody is talking to us, we have nothing to do, comments are being made to where we aren't even comfortable being there anymore. She decides to talk to the regional about it, he has a conversation with both of us and gives a reason why the GM is doing this and it's not with malicious intent but he should have communicated etc. Thursday we come in, we did exactly as instructed by our RM which was to do as much as we could and we left. I put that I was off for this Friday over a month ago before my boss switched out his calenders. So I did not go in friday..
Today I show up to start at the new place and am told I am fired. Nobody had the decency to call me. I'm not even sure how that's possible considering the documents I signed state I don't have to give any kind of notice and my intention to be done with this boss was given the 22nd. Everything after was me trying to be decent, I wasn't required to show up at all or give any notice.. so how can you push me through as terminated? You can deny the transfer I guess but I'm not sure how they can put on paperwork that I was fired.. He apologized to me and even said my GM is a pos. He knows its wrong but apparently aside from reaching out to HR and filing for unemployment there's nothing I can do.
I know this is retaliation for me quitting because that's how my boss is… there's a lot of shady shit that goes on there yet none of the people involved are ever fired. We had a guy throw something at another employee with a write up, he was transferred, even after being fired by my GM… we had a girl who didn't want to show up to work a notice because she was afraid of two other girls.. paid for the full 2 weeks, not fired. Employees that got mad and just left for the day… not fired. So how can I be fired after putting in a notice which wasnt required and showing up for as long as I could tolerate being mistreated? I'm at a loss that he would even do this… 3 days away from finally being treated and paid properly.
