I apologize about the th3 story being long. It irritates me to this day and i need to share it.
My previous job was a manager at pizza hut getting paid 12.50 an hour. I decided to quit bc I wasn't making enough. I am not a cashier at target making 15 an hour.
So getting into the story I always arrive 5 minutes before my shift bc I can clock in 5 min before and it adds up over time. Breaks where started as soon as you got off the register so I was always irritated by that but I never complained and was always taking the right amount of time. One day I went on lunch and the manager didn't tell me to go. A coworker at guest service did bc they are able to do so when a manager is busy. I get clock out at 7:02 and clock back in at 7:33. I call out on the walkie talkie that I'm back from lunch and go to send another coworker to lunch. About an hour later I overhear one of my coworkers tell my manager that I am still on lunch (about 1 hour and 30 minutes) my manager (let's call him jerry) proceeds to call me into his office and started off with pleasantries. Later into the convo
Jerry: “I've been noticing your late to work and take extended breaks constantly.”
Me: “I'm always 5 min early and never take extended breaks, if I'm ever late it's bc of traffic and only by a few minutes”
Jerry: “even if it is a few minutes it disrupts our team with their breaks and lunches, we have to wait till you come in to send them on break”
(That's a lie, they only wait when someone is currently on it before sending another team member to go)
Me': “ok”
Jerry: “I also learned you a really long lunch today, over an hour long”
Me: I clocked out at 7:02 and clocked back in at 7:33. I never took an extended break, multiple people saw me come back from lunch and heard me call it out on the radio”
Jerry: (looks perplexed) “either way you need to be on time, otherwise the next time we have this conversation will be our last. Do you even want to work here”
Me: “yes” (in my head I'm like fuck no)
Jerry: “ok you can go back”
I'm sharing this bc not ONE time has anyone bothered to look at the time clock, or even try to gather information about the truth. I spoke to HR and they themselves didn't know about that conversation. Every conversation a lead has with a member about correction of any kind needs to be documented in a report. In otherwords it was a bluff. I even showed her a recording over the conversation as proof. But here's the kicker, one of my coworkers CONSTANTLY takes 45 min breaks when it's supposed to be a 15. And a 2 hour lunch when it's supposed to be 30 min. Today I found out that she 100% knows that bc she had an alarm to go back, she juts dismissed it and doesn't go back on the floor but yet she isn't getting fired and no one is doing anything about it. The managers complain about it too. So I don't understand why I'm being “attacked” over false allegations when someone else is doing so much worse. And this story is one of MANY that has happened. I have only been at target for 8 months but yet I am now the senior as I'm the only employee (other then the manager) who has been there the longest. I only stay bc I have bills and I won't be able to find a job that pays as much if not more. I have talked to HR after this conversation with Jerry and the managers have been getting better bus not good enough. The store runs south better when no manager is at the front. It's pathetic that we work better and more efficiently without one.
