An update to “I make $15 an hour, too much to receive government assistance but not enough to live off of. Yesterday, I had to shoplift ibuprofen for my teething daughter. This sucks.”

Hey y'all. Not sure if some of you remember me but a couple of weeks back, I posted in this sub about the absolute shit situation I was in. My daughter was teething, I has to make the ultimate decision to shoplift baby Tylenol because I was down to less than ten bucks in my bank account. The response I received was overwhelming. Between comments and inbox messages and chat requests – a lot of kind words, a lot of really crappy, downright hateful as well. So many of you though were kind and offered help (and I took a lot of you up on that but I know a lot of you I also missed haha) I wanted to come back with a slight update: my daughter caught C0vid from her daycare and we're still dealing with the aftermath of that. Hey y'all. Not sure if some of you remember me but a couple of weeks back, I posted in this sub about the absolute shit situation I was in. I wanted to come back with a slight update: my daughter caught C0vid from her daycare and we're still dealing with the aftermath of that. My kiddo just had a slight fever and slept more – whereas I've felt like I've been hit by a semi truck the past few days. She's testing negative but I tested positive yesterday so unfortunately, I'm still out at work until I get a negative test. Whomp whomp. It's been super stressful because I'm still paying for daycare, even when my girl isn't there. If I were to stop, they'd revoke her spot and I'd have to deal with the stress of finding another place to take her that may or may not take what little daycare assistance I still receive. I also reached out to the child support enforcement department of my local social services to get my daughter's father to start paying more and they're “reviewing” my case but hey, anything at all extra would be so helpful.

In the good news: our local food bank is awesome. We've gone twice now and it's helped me with the food insecurity and keeping our pantry/fridge better stocked. I reapplied for SNAP and I'm still waiting to hear back about that. One really awesome person helped me fix up my resume and a few of you offered assistance with me going back to school, finding ways to pay for it, etc. So once me and my kiddo get over this latest hurdle, my plan is to go to my local community colleges to get my foot in the door as far as going back to school to get my associates.

I know when I posted last, I was in a tailspin of absolute despair and stress and literally cried like a baby at the overwhelming outpour of kindness. I'm still waiting for things to get better but at least I sort of have a plan mapped out for myself! It's also my birthday on Wednesday so here's to my 23rd year being even better, fingers crossed!
