Boss got me with carrot on a stick promotion. My turn.

Been at big company for 4 years. Should've been promoted after 2. Didn't get shit. Didn't really care because work life balance, pay, benefits, wfh, team…all good. Then boss says in annual review I'm doing great he's gonna promote me. Oh btw he has an in office asignment. I say okay but i am moving and cant do it for full 4 months. I do two months, refuse to do last two which would be almost 2hrs each way. He knows this, tells me I have to do it, tells me he can't transfer me to closer office until I interview and get an offer. After his fucking assignment, during which I was harassed and sexually harassed, he says I will not be promoted because I moved. Says to me, ppl in san fran and nyc do 2hr commutes all the time. But I am still expected to perform as…

After his fucking assignment, during which I was harassed and sexually harassed, he says I will not be promoted because I moved. Says to me, ppl in san fran and nyc do 2hr commutes all the time. But I am still expected to perform as if I didn't. So I'm 2 years late on an industry standard promotion.

So I started interviewing, got an offer in a month with a competitor which includes a 21% pay raise. So it's time to have some fun. Going to extend the offer by asking questions and negotiating and while I do so, gonna hit up HR and ethics, make it a big issue before I leave. Maybe I'll ask them to counter the offer even with no intention of taking it. Then when I do leave, gonna tell the guy two managers above him exactly why I am leaving and that this guy has no business managing anyone. He's got only a year of exp and is very early in his professional career, making all the classic mistakes of an overstepping manipulative middle manager.

The real shame is the job is just amazing in every other way and I do hate to leave it. I am prob waving goodbye to ever seeing a worklife balance like that again. Fridays off, almost no meetings, hands-off teammates, six figure pay, 4 weeks vaca, huge 401k match, etc.

But when they say ppl quit managers not jobs, this is exactly what they mean. Stupid kid's spitefulness gonna cost the company a good engineer.
