Non-profit hospital CEO made ~180 times as much as estimated salary of medical assistants.

I work for a big non-profit hospital with terrible PTO (less than 2 weeks including sick time and vacation) and benefits. Just saw the CEO’s compensation on the 990 forms for the past few years and was gobsmacked. Looking at rough estimates from indeed, this hospital’s medical assistants’ rough annual salary is ~41,600… Between 2018-2021 the base compensation for the CEO grew from 1.4-1.6 million dollars. However, the total compensation, including retirement and so on, fluctuated significantly, with the lowest being 1.7 million and the highest year being 7.6 million. Looking at the form more closely, the biggest factor in that fluctuation was the “Bonuses and incentives” column, with the lowest year’s bonus and incentive amount at 38,000, and the highest being 5.5+ million $. Can someone speak to what the hell these bonus and incentives are? Is this money that the CEO would actually take home? What does taxing…

Can someone speak to what the hell these bonus and incentives are? Is this money that the CEO would actually take home? What does taxing a CEO of a nonprofit look like?

I guess I’m wondering what this CEOs actual take home amount might be….

Not to mention this CEO is also listed as a ‘director’ of a giant multinational telecommunications and media conglomerate, for which, according to the internet, this person is compensated more than $310,000 for…. (Separate than their role as CEO… I can’t imagine that the compensation received for the director role would be captured in the ‘bonus and incentives’ compensation, but maybe so??)
