Little bit of shame about not caring at work

I work in the medical industry in a testing laboratory. My position doesn't require a degree or really any particular knowledge they can't train you on but it's still vital to the flow and out come of samples. While I'm not really putting any patients or anything at risk I just don't care about my work and kinda half ass a lot of things. I feel a little bit of shame because I have a little bit of effect on these people's lives but I'm far underpaid for how overworked I am. They're going to be piling on more work for us in a few weeks and I just can't be bothered to give it my all for the patients. I'll probably try to transfer to a different lab in the company some time soon but I'll feel a little bad leaving some coworkers even shorter handed and more overworked. I can't let that stop me though gotta look out for myself I guess.
