I am a hybrid worker but my boss forces me to be in the office when he’s away

So this may sound like I'm moaning but this is an issue that really bothers me. I work 2 days a week in office and 3 at home. My usual schedule is out, in, out, in, out. We are a small team of only 6 people, with a director who also works in the day to day operations. However, this director is very often taking random days off (not working at all) and also long holidays. He has this weird obsession that when he is not working actively on that day that ALL the other employees must come into the office. Sometimes he gives just 1 day notice and says ''im off tomorrow, so you should be in the office instead of at home”. It doesn't matter if you normally do Wednesday at home for example in your regular schedule. If he's decided he's not going to be working that…

If he's decided he's not going to be working that day, you now HAVE to come into the office.

Which means when he goes on a 2 week vacation, I am now doing 10/10 days in the office.

This is absolute bullshit, as the team works exceptionally well from home and we all get our work quotas finished on time to a high standard. Us being there doesn't impact anything except our petrol, financial and time wastage.

This makes us feel like he doesn't trust us when he's not around (even though some days the full staff work remotely including him with no issues) and doesn't respect our home working schedules at all.

Appreciate any comments.
