Ex-wife works at Walmart, hired during the pandemic, and was recently told she's losing her “sweetheart hours”. She's been getting around 32 hours a week for the last couple years now, with a set schedule of daytime hours and Fridays and Saturdays off. She's also making $1 an hour more than all the other people in her department. She actually enjoys her job and likes most of her coworkers, and has worked the same department the whole time. This week they only have her scheduled for like 4 hours, then like a week off, then another 4 or 5 hour shift. I told her it definitely looks like they're trying to get rid of her and recommended she spend her unexpected free time looking for a new job.
This is Arizona and the law for constructive dismissal claims requires a 15 day written notice to give the employer the opportunity to “fix” the situation(does this mean they'll just offer her a few more hours to skirt the law and/or reset the 15 days so she'll just drop it?), AND Arizona unemployment is capped at $240 a week last I checked. (This system is so fucked) Is there any point going after unemployment for this?
