Antiwork

My mom lives 2 hours away from work and her boss wants her to come to the office in “hybrid mode”.

My mom has been working for the same company for over 30 years now. This company do maintenance on the buildings of their clients. They do call for tenders, they employ technicians and have administration staff working in an office. For the past 2 years or so she has been working remotely and everything has been great ever since. She used to live closer from work but she moved since her & her boyfriend bought a beautiful house together 2 hours away from the city. Her boss tells her she needs to come in two times a week from now on as they will try “hybrid mode”. She's telling her the reason is to look good for the client, which has employees working in the same building. Her boss thinks she's doing her a favor by bringing her in only two days a week.

And because her boss is close to the big boss, she wants to look good as well by bringing in her employees to work in the office.

I told my mom to tell her boss she's much more productive at home and way less tired. She will also tell her her boyfriend is immunocompromised (which is true) & that it's compromising his health.

WHY? Why are they all like this? Why would you want people to come in the office when they can do the same work at home?

10 bus tickets from where she lives to the city costs $285. Plus she will need to get up at 4:45 – 5:00 am to arrive on time. This is not okay and it makes me furious. That's how you treat an employee who's been working for the same company for over 30 years. I can't believe it.

Sorry if there's any mistakes in my wording, as English is not my first language.
