Context: my coworker & I would like to get paid more but we’re not sure how to go about it. We work manufacturing and most other manufacturing jobs in the area start off $1-$2 more than what we’re currently making, albeit many others also have a lot more overtime and shift differentials.
Our employer gave us 10% performance raises last fall, bringing us both to just shy of $18/hr. When I tried talking about it 2 weeks ago w/ my supervisor, explaining we’re doing exceptionally well lately, he only asked if I’d be willing to learn another job. I suggested not atm since others doing our job will be retiring soon he might want to keep us where we were for now. He said all the workers in my position are paid at the top tier atm so he can’t do anything about that (which idk if I believe). Ultimately, nothing happened.
My coworker is now looking for work closer to home since she can’t afford to commute. We both like the job and management isn’t toxic at all, but we need something if my partner intends to stay.
There was also a rumor of more raises later this year – possibly a flat raise rather than a performance raise, so we don’t want to potentially screw ourselves out of more later. My partner isn’t going to wait much longer and I’d rather not loose a decent coworker if I can help it, but I completely understand her situation.
If more context is needed, I’ll provide what I can.
