I was in college and worked for a supermarket for about 4 years. At a place with a high turnover, avg employees lasting maybe 3 months, 4 years was an eternity. I was a very hard worker and often did the stuff others didn't want to. Everyone knew me. This was 2009.
Then my boss left and a supervisor was promoted to manager.
I was surprised with tickets to my first ever concert for my favorite band, Metallica, and the concert happened to be on superbowl sunday. Which is basically an-all-hands-on-deck, no one gets the day off. So I didn't show up. And got fired by the new boss.
2 weeks later I had a new job with double the past pay. 2 years later, I was in an awesome job that changed my life. 6 years later I'm back in school at an ivy league. 10 years later I've got my dream job making more than the supermaket district manager for 25hrs a week from home.
And it all started with a no call no show to see Metallica.
Do not sacrifice your life for a job.
PS: if anyone knows James Hetfield, tell him this story.
