I am a project manager for an IT company. It is a small company less than 50 employees and half of them live all across the USA. I have loved working with my programming team and building out projects. I've been watching the great resignation take place and I know why. We are all burned out. They don't understand that we are overworked and exhausted. I had worked a deal to transfer out of Project Management and into another department at the company. Less hours and a ton less of responsibilities. Well I cannot make it to the agreed date for my transition which is another 8 weeks due to the stress and the negative affects on me. I am 4 weeks in already from when I started this process.
I sent an email that I was completely stressed out and it is affecting me physically, mentally, etc. I have become more intolerant to my two young children's behavior when all they are doing are just being kids. I WFH so many times the kids are with me and if I get stressed out it affects how I treat them. Not good at all my family needs to come first.
We had a call and I was in tears telling him about what I am going through and I need some unpaid time off, then come back to the new department. He called me weak on the phone. He said our generation was weak and that this is how life is. You have to toughen it out. He said he would think about it and hung up. He later sent an email saying I need to complete the 8 weeks before transferring to department and how much of a favor he is doing me for allowing this at all. My transfer is dependent on the 8 week completion.
Guess who is quitting tomorrow? This guy.
