Hello! Hopefully this is the right place to get some advice. I’ve been with my company nearly five years now doing outside sales.
About a week ago, my manager asked if I would go on an interview with him for my opinion. During the interview, the candidate stated how much money she made one month at her previous job, which is way more than I’ve ever made here. After she left, I asked my manager if he told her our company isn’t the place to go if she’s expecting those payouts. He responded with “she knows, I let her know of the starting salary of $XX,XXX.”
The starting salary is about $3,000 more than what I make now. Shocked, I told him I don’t make that much. He started to argue saying “yes you do!” Clearly, I know how much I get paid.
Anyways, if he hires this person, I would be expected to train…. expected to train someone making more money than me, less experience, while they’ve been hired days and I, nearly 5 years. That makes me so upset and just does NOT sit well. I know I have some leverage since my actual boss told me, and it wasn’t just “gossip” I heard about what starting salaries are these days.
Hoping for some opinions as to what I should do here. I don’t want to give my boss any ultimatums and risk getting fired (which would probably be a blessing in disguise..) but yeah, there’s NO CHANCE I’m doing a minute of training being paid less than this new girl.
