What are we working for?

I’ve been struggling with this for a long time. In a span of 5 years I’ve managed to move into a new field and have doubled my income. I’m not at 4000 euro pre-tax. This is an absurd amount of money that even a lot of boomers don’t make. But after tax I have about 2900 left. My rent is 1000 euro and if I ask the bank for a mortgage I can get about 250.000 to 300.000 which gets you…. Nothing. Seriously. Nothing. So if I, someone quite lucky and privileged, can’t get ahead and “do” or “own” anything, at what point have we “made it”? And what are we even doing it all for? Are we waiting for affordable housing? Is that ever going to happen? Are we going to just wait for the world to burn?
