Holding out for a recession

I was copied on an email today that I probably shouldn't have been. Included in it was the draft of the quarterly letter our CEO sends to the board of directors. Obviously I read it. In one section the CEO talked about how high attrition is, and how challenging retention has been. We cannot hire fast enough to backfill the number of people leaving. Then goes on to say the only thing that is likely to fix this is another recession, and that with interest rates at a 40 year high, it's likely to happen. What really annoyed me the most though was that the letter detailed how they gave out a ton of equity bonuses last quarter, and are going to increase the 401k match, and they think retention has improved slightly with changes like that. So they KNOW there are ways to hold on to people aside from national financial crisis, but they still are hoping that people get fucked over by the economy instead. And if that's the nonsense they put in the board letter, I can only imagine the shit that gets said out loud. Usually I don't really buy into the mindset that there is a global conspiracy to keep us poor, but damn if they're not trying hard to convince me.
