Hotel I Work At

So I've been doing front desk for about 6 months now at this motel. It's super low quality. I've been pretty happy working here because it's not much work. Our GM was pretty chill about everything and he helped a lot of people out by giving them discounts and stuff and even let me decide if I could do the same. Just recently he was forced to resign and we have a new GM who came in with all these checklists and whatnot. The checklist is not a big deal seeing as it's mostly what we already did. The only difference and the thing that kills me is now we are forced to take a $100 deposit. This deposit could take like 5 days to come back to the card. It's a security deposit. This motel I work at is seriously a cheap ass motel ngl. So the people who stay here barely have enough for the room in some cases. When I tell them they have a deposit and they cant afford it it breaks my heart. A lot of people who come here are here for like their kids who are in school or doctor appointments. A lady came in with her kids and she wasn't aware of the deposit because we haven't updated our third parties yet. I begged our new GM to let it slide and said “I feel like we're punishing people for being poor” because she couldn't even cancel because we have a 24 hour cancelation policy. She did let it slide but with a “Next time she has to pay and everyone is going to have to start.”. Anyway, I hate asking for it. I use to love this job. Fuck capitalism.
