The company I work for accidentally “fired” me.

To better explain the title: One day at work in the middle of my shift I was suddenly locked out of one of the systems I need to use. I tried to call the help desk to see what was up and the lady there said she could not even find me in the system. And then, one by one, the other accounts/systems I have to sign in to started to also lock me out. So, I filed a ticket with help desk and then left for the day as my shift was over. I came in the next day and still could not sign into anything. My manager and our DM filed tickets as well regarding the issue. I called the help desk again because I could literally not do my job while I was locked out of everything and waiting for a response to these tickets was…

To better explain the title:

One day at work in the middle of my shift I was suddenly locked out of one of the systems I need to use.

I called the help desk again because I could literally not do my job while I was locked out of everything and waiting for a response to these tickets was not ideal. However, the person I spoke to this time said he could also not find me in the system at all. Also, if my DM had already filed a ticket then there was nothing more that could be done at the moment and a resolution could take 72 business hours. By the way, this was on a Saturday.

At that point, I went home early because I was unable to do anything – I essentially did not even work there anymore. Luckily, I had Sunday off. But on Monday, my manager said that the issue still had not been fixed and to take the day off. Meanwhile, was going to see about getting the ticket escalated and would let me know what happens. So, I took the day off. Mid way through the day he texted me saying they fixed everything and I was good to come in on Tuesday.

Tuesday I went in and most of my stuff was restored except for one system that they had to fix which was restored later that day.

What had happened was:

There was another employee at a different store, in a different state, who shared the same name as me. Our first and last names were exactly the same but the other employee was differentiated in the system by having a middle initial in his name whereas I did not.

The other guy either quit or got fired. They (HR, I assume) removed him from the system when apparently they saw my name and thought we were the same person. So, they essentially “fired” me, too, by mistake.

What do I do now?

My morale took a beating and I'm frustrated. I still have my job and what not so that's… good. But, I missed hours because of this issue. And, I work partially on commission so there were a few sales that I could not put in my name that went to my manager and I lost potential sales from missing time etc.

Realistically, I did not lose a massive amount of money due to this. It hurts but I'll survive. But, I feel like the fact of the matter is that I shouldn't have lost anything because this wasn't my mistake but yet I am the one facing the consequences.

This situation is so out of the ordinary that I am not sure what I should do or what I can do. I already emailed my DM explaining basically what I said above but I haven't heard back from him yet. I feel like I shouldn't let this get swept under the rug but I have no idea what I should do or how this could even be rectified, though.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions I would love to have some input. Thank you
