Okay, for a bit of context, I'm a Brit, been dealing with the Department of Works/Pensions for… a decade? Mostly because IT jobs in Brum are a pain in the arse to find, like there's all of 2 I know of at present actually in the eastern city.
Recently it seemed like things were kicking up a bit. DWP shunted me onto their 'Restart' scheme, which is the usual BS. “We're too busy to do more than whinge at people over no work, so we'll outsource the 'help' in getting jobs.” Okay, fine, that's nothing unusual, they've been doing that for years.
Then, I get, in the last month or so, around 6 possible offers. Three of them cold calls, the first wanted me to travel further than I'm willing because I'm on public transport and while the DWP claims 90mins travel, my workings go to 60mins, with maybe 30mins wait, since buses can be shit.
Second one, haven't heard back from, so no clue what's the what there. It was supposed to be a WfH office job, which'd be decent enough. My sister's doing similar from her work so, eh. It'd let me bolster my cash reserves, get rid of a student finance loan that I got conned into and maybe replace my old workhorse computer.
Number three was some Indian 'employment agency'. Job looked good, except it was moving to the other side of Coventry, 15 miles as the crow flies. Took 4 calls to get the 'fuck off, no!' through their heads. Like seriously, some people just do not understand a negative.
That leaves three, one more from an agency cold calling, two via Restart.
One, I'm honestly hoping for, is a local school IT tech. Done that sorta thing before, so I can handle the shit again. Just that it's through an agency makes it a bit long winded, not that it'd be much less so if it was direct because school, DBS is needed.
Job two of those is also 'decent', except the “founder” is apparently the only one capable of HR in the company, and he took a week off, then another going through applications before offering an interview in two weeks. Might need it, if the school one drops, but I do not like that attitude. This is one of the Restart ones, which honestly, most DWP associated job groups are staffed by monkeys.
Last job though… That was through the Restart scheme as well, but I got an email saying this:
Apply for this and let me know when its been done guaranteed interviews (Make sure you put it down as you know about the role because of Maximus)
Regards,
Seriously. First the email. What the fuck? You're not my parent, guardian, superior officer or boss, screw the fuck off with that attitude.
Second, take a look at the job. It's a month old, minimum. What does that say about the company? Going along with that. Shift work, no mention of actual benefits apart from a 'pension' that are actually worth shit. 'Generous holiday' probably means 2 weeks unpaid if that. Insurance might be useful to others, but means shit to me, and dress code? Why is that even considered a benefit?
Yeah. Excuse me if I ignore the hell out of that BS, because seriously, talk about bollocks.
