Do Not Give 2 Weeks Notice

The point of this post is the title.. don't give two weeks notice to an employer, unless you like them or would want to work there again. I see people giving 2 sometimes 4 week notices at their shitty jobs.. don't do this, it only hurts YOU! I had been searching for a new role for months, as I was in a very toxic environment. I finally landed a new role recently, but only told my employer of my departure after all the documents and forms had gone through for the new role. I had been searching for a new role for months, as I was in a very toxic environment. I finally landed a new role recently, but only told my employer of my departure after all the documents and forms had gone through for the new role.

My previous employer was very unhappy that I only provide a few days notice, and tried to find out where I was going next. I remained professional, but did not share my next role with them, as it could only hurt me.

My HR department then sent me the off boarding procedure and it laid out that all remaining PTO didn't need to be paid out (due to my state), all PTO after my notice date was cancelled, and that I could not take PTO anymore, and that I had to work full days for the remainder of my time. Thankfully, I only had a couple days left which was spent handing off my tasks.

Also, I was prepared for this, and took 95% of my available PTO before I notified them. However, they still stole a few hours of my time off.

To summarize, only provide as much notice as you'll need to offload all your work. Use up all your PTO, unless you're in a state that forces the employer to pay it out. And lastly do not tell them about your new role.. it can only hurt you.

TLDR: Do not give more than a few days notice to employers, as it only hurts you. Use all your PTO, before leaving, and don't tell them about your new role. This is all applicable unless you might want to return to the employer in the future.
