So I work for a huge governmental body in NSW Australia and have a 1 day conference tomorrow 2 hours by train from my house. This requires me to leave the hours 1 hour earlier than normal, as well as return home 2 hours later than normal work day (might even be more if trains are delayed, we will see), as well as pay for a train ticket. I asked today about putting the extra hours on my payslip or whether we take it as time in lieu (I have only been working here a short time and havnt had to ask yet). I was made to feel like I was being rediculous asking and that ‘nobody has thought of an answer to that yet’ and it seems the general vibe is to do nothing about it. I’m also the only one that takes my full breaks and morning tea, as well as leaves on time after my rostered hours. What can I say – I don’t work for free, my time and my free time is super valuable to me and I like to stick to times. What can I do? I find this attitude super upsetting as it causes me a lot of anxiety!
