This is a vent/rant.
I work for a Fortune 500 company that literally makes billions of dollars a year. I make less than 25k a year. I’ve been good, I don’t call out, I’ve never been late, my performance is good. My husband lives abroad and I finally had enough savings to get a plane ticket to see him. This trip is months away, possibly August/September. Plenty of notice. Before I bought the tickets, I asked for 2 weeks off through my company. Unpaid. (I did not have enough PTO to cover both weeks.)
They denied it. Reasoning: “Not enough voluntary time-off.”
HUH??
This company makes BILLIONS of dollars a year and has thousands and thousands of employees across the country. In my department and building alone there’s 500 people that do the same job as I do. I didn’t realize I was THAT important that leaving for two weeks would cause the company to collapse without my presence. I am not even a manager or any position of importance.
I am literally asking for UNPAID time off. The company literally doesn’t have to pay me. I just want to see my husband.
I already give this company 260 days of my fucking life in a year. 5 days every week of the year. And they can’t afford to let me enjoy life for 10 days.
I am tired of this obsession companies have working us to death. They treat us like enjoying life is a privilege. I don’t live to work, I work to live. I’m super upset and feel unmotivated in any of my work now.
Thank you for letting me rant.
