So I would post a picture if I could, but screenshots are only allowed on Sundays so I have to explain this situation to y’all.
I cook for a local restaurant, and it’s a very popular spot. This place brought in over $1m last year. They actually have brought in so much money since they opened 3-4 years ago that the owners are now building themselves a new house from the ground up. The owners wife has bragged constantly about how much they’re spending on the house, and how they’ve spent between $60-80K on kitchen appliances alone. They’ve also been going on 2-3 vacations a year since Covid started and are already planning another one.
I bring this all up because here recently those same owners have been trying to throw our staff around and make them do jobs that aren’t theirs for no extra pay. Coming and taking our dish washers and our prep people for 2 hours every morning cause they don’t want to hire a maintenance man. Or pulling them out of the kitchen in the middle of a rush to do something that one of the 5 owners could’ve done in 30 seconds.
Well our new schedule just went out this morning at 9am (currently 10:15 as I’m typing this) and they had our dish washer on 3 different shifts this week. One day was dish washing, one day was prep, and the next day was being a fry cook, but they still want to pay him the base $14/hr to dishwash instead of the $16/hr prep or $18+/hr cook. When he responded to the chat and said “I thought I was a dish washer, not prep” one of the owners replied with “everyone who is hired is expected to perform all kitchen tasks, but we can discuss this in private”
I’ve seriously been trying to get everyone to just stick it to them and refuse to work. What’re they gonna do? Fire us all? They can barely keep staff as is, and don’t know how to run their own kitchens. It’s seriously a fucking joke.
