Recently my place of work has been scheduling cashier for two days a week with four hour shifts. The company itself is cutting hours at all locations in our area. The managers are being given between 90 and 110 hours to work with. This would be somewhat fine if the company wasn't pressuring the managers to hire more people. At the location I work at there are eight cashiers, four stockers, two assistant managers and two salaried managers. It's only one cashier per four hour shift with one manager. The stockers work over night and get just a bit more hours than everyone else.
We are overstaffed for our small store. At most we should have 4 or 5 cashiers throughout the year. Yet my boss is being told he needs to hire more people.
I know I should quit, but I'm waiting to have a new job lined up. I also know that if I leave, someone would get my hours, which is fine. My boss would make sure to split those extra eight hours as evenly as he could.
I've filled out at least a dozen job applications this past week, but haven't heard anything back yet. I'm filling out a few more today. My boss is aware that I'm looking for either a second job or a new one all together. He also knows that he can count on me to come in if someone calls out.
