I work for a rehabilitation company where I go to clients homes, that the company owns and help take care of them. The clients I work with have developmental disabilities and some can be violent at times. I’m doing this job as a internship for my degree.
Whenever I have to take clients anywhere there is a gas reimbursement but it is honestly laughable, (30 cents per mile). Gas is about $4.80 where I live in Idaho. Plus I’m only paid $10.55 per hour.
One of my client’s ask if I could take them across town and I had to tell them no because I’m low on gas and waiting till paid so that I can fill up. They where unhappy and throw a fit, and sent a text to my manager that I refuse to take them anywhere. I received a text from my manager that I need to take my client to where they need to go. I respond that I would if it’s necessary travel such as for doctors appointment and job related, or groceries. I told my boss I’m struggling to afford gas and that since it is my own personal car, I have a right to choose when and who I need to take. I only have about 2 more months left to do my internship but if you expect your employees to take clients places have a company car and pay for the gas!!!!
