Society

On one end of the spectrum, is a society where everyone must work, because technology hasn't come far enough to support a large population of idle people. On the other end of the spectrum is a society where no one has to work, because technology automated literally all jobs, and everyone is now chilling 24/7, drinking coctails served by robot butlers. And then there's our society in 2022: a cursed middle-ground, where half of the population still performs essential labour (without which our society would crumble), while the other half has been made completely redundant by automation, but instead of letting them chill and enjoy their lives, they are forced to waste their time doing fake pretend-work (bullshit jobs) out of forced solidarity for the other 50%. Suggest that 99% of the population (the workers) toil endlessly to support an idle 1% (the elite), and everyone begrudgingly accepts this,…

Suggest that 99% of the population (the workers) toil endlessly to support an idle 1% (the elite), and everyone begrudgingly accepts this, even if they morally disagree with it.

Suggest that 1% of the population (people whose jobs are absolutely essential and cannot be automated away, e.g. farmers) toil endlessly to support an idle 99% (people whose jobs have been automated away in a hypothetical semi-utopian future), and everyone loses their minds.
