I am a security guard and I'm usually constantly looking for a better opportunity I thought I found one a couple of weeks ago and started the hiring process. When I first asked about the job they told me it was $22 an hour plus overtime for a 12-hour shift overnight, I've never done overnight just before but I figured for the money would be worth it if only for a short time.
I started going through the hiring process doing interviews and talking to a few key individuals etc. I was slated to work the weekends for about a month so I could put in 2 weeks notice in my current job starting Saturday. On Thursday i was called to iron out the final details, uniform, duties the usual when the boss casually told me that to clarify the job is equivalent to $22 an hour when i asked to clarify I was told that I'll be getting payed $19 plus overtime and for a 12-hour shift it'll be the same as working for $22. When I brought up the original $22 an hour he stated that he never said that even though I had text messages to prove it he said that those were taken out of context. I told him that I will not be interested in the job that pays only a dollar more the only currently make and they just replied that it's not his fault that I didn't understand the offer and that you'll see me on Saturday and hung up.
For some reason I was trying to justify this trying to find some reason to move forward but talking to my friends and family they told me that if they were that sketchy with the original payment who knows what else they could do to screw me over. It's a 12 hour shift but what if my two lunches are 1 1/2 hours so i lose 3 hours of pay or just randomly tell me that there's no more overtime so I decided to reject the offer. I called them back to tell him that I will not be continuing forward with the job offer because of this must understanding, this guy, the boss who I haven't even met yet told me that I already started the hiring process and to quit now would be very unprofessional that I should offer him at least a month of work like I promised or he'll call my current boss to tell me that I was planning on leaving. I actually laughed a bit because my current boss knew what I was doing and he was cool with me getting a better job. I told him to go ahead and call he started to talk some shit about my abilities and actually rescinded the job offer saying that they can have people who are not team players and that no one would be hiring for 22 an hour he told me that I should apologize for wasting his time, i just hung up since i had nothing to say.
Saturday morning i was called about my shift what to wear what time to come in i told them i was rejected from the hiring process and they just replied that they changed mind and that they'll see me at 6:00 pm. When I didn't show up they called pissed off that i was a no call no show and threatened to fire me i said go for it i ignored the rest of the calls but got a few text saying I need to finish up the hiring paperwork so I can be fired properly.
